UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention supports global efforts to end TB by 2030

The local and international experts and speakers who participated in the event discussed the latest recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the field of health care for tuberculosis patients.

The challenges of fighting the disease were also discussed, in addition to reviewing studies and statistics that illustrate the global and local situation.

Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Deputy Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, said that the UAE is one of the countries with low prevalence of TB and the ministry continues to cooperate and plan with health authorities when it comes to conducting scientific research and finding the best solutions and medicines to end TB by 2030.

Al Rand highlighted the UAE’s participation in the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Strategy to eradicate tuberculosis in the region. The Ministry has implemented, in collaboration with health authorities and strategic partners, several prevention strategies and programs to reduce and control the spread of the disease, such as the standardization of surveillance methods and treatment systems, the provision regular supply of drugs against tuberculosis, preventive vaccination of children at birth and the early detection program for tuberculosis.

“The ministry has organized many outreach and community activities and programs to sensitize various segments of society about TB and encourage early diagnosis to avoid the disease and its complications,” Al Darmaki said. “The ministry is keen to provide the latest effective preventive and curative health systems at all levels, to follow the effective measures that ensure the control and prevention of the disease, and to develop preventive strategies and plans to raise awareness and spread the social consciousness”.
