By Ruben Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) is in the process of vaccinating children aged 5-11 against COVID-19.
“The Ministry of Health and Welfare is pleased to announce that Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines for children ages 5-11 have arrived in Belize,” said A press release by the Belize Government Press Office.
“Vaccines will be made available in schools and vaccination sites across the country through collaboration with the Ministry of Education.”
The MOHW plans to vaccinate 73,000 children in this age group.
“Vaccinated children have a lower risk of infections, severe illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19, as well as a lower risk of becoming ill and spreading the virus to their homes and to other children in school,” the MOHW said.
“Protecting children is the collective responsibility of parents, community and government.”
