Jakarta (ANTARA) – Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo has said his ministry will immediately distribute 800,000 doses of the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine that arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Banten, on Friday morning, to the regions to accelerate the management of the epidemic.

“Today we received 800,000 doses of vaccine, and from tomorrow it can be distributed. We have ensured that these three million doses can arrive in Indonesia in stages,” Minister Limpo noted in his declaration by receiving the arrival of the vaccine. dispatch to Soekarno-Hatta airport.

The Minister is optimistic that the vaccine stock will be distributed quickly through cooperation between local governments, crisis centers and task forces in districts and provinces, so that injections as well as treatment can be administered from optimal way.

“I hope that the task forces in the districts, the crisis centers in the districts or provinces, and at the national level, are ready to inject the vaccines,” he said.

The minister explained that the vaccine distribution process will take place at the site of the foot and mouth disease outbreak which had been previously mapped. The ministry categorized livestock that had been prioritized for receiving the foot-and-mouth disease vaccine.

The injection of vaccines will be given priority for healthy animals in the red and yellow zones. In addition, the vaccine against foot-and-mouth disease is given priority for cattle located in the area of ​​origin of the farm as well as for cattle located in the area of ​​the dairy farming center.

Minister Limpo said the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, so far, was highest in the area of ​​animal trafficking, whether by land or by sea.

“Animal trafficking is one of the sources of the epidemic. Therefore, there must be controls and quarantines on the movement of animal trafficking, both by sea and by air. We hope that checks and quarantines will also be carried out on land, of course, because there are many alternative routes that pose a challenge,” he said.

The minister said the virus causing the foot-and-mouth outbreak spread rapidly through the air. Therefore, Limpo urged all officers in the field to manage issues relating to human presence and the entry and exit of livestock.

“The spread of this epidemic is extremely fast. Therefore, maximum efforts should be made. Hopefully, this would bring us all a sense of certainty that the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease can be resolved optimally,” a- he asserted.
