The Chairman of the World Human Rights Council for Africa and Ghana Nii Ayitey Anumle Oyanka I called on the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association to stop the implementation of AstroTurfs and to focus on investing in grassroots football.

According to the former footballer turned traditional leader in Ghana who spent his professional football career in Sweden in 2009, the Ghana Football Association is not doing things right.

“The Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports need to get it right. The Colts Football which gave birth to players like Abedi Pele, Sulley Muntari, Bright Addae, Asamoah Gyan, Baffour Gyan, Kwame Ayew, Samuel Osei Kuffour have been neglected and destroyed”.

He added that the implementation of Astoturfs should be halted but instead attention should be paid to foal football.

King Oyanka noted that community football in Ghana since time immemorial has been played on rough and grassless pitches but quality players have been produced from these pitches.

“Talent centers like Bubuashie, Fadama, Tema, Ashaiman, Mamprobi, Nima and Newtown, Darkuman, Teshie-Nungua and other areas until recently all had youth clubs producing talent on grassless pitches. Two recent Black Stars captains, Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan all had their formative years in football on grassless pitches.

He added that what he sees today are young men from wealthy families who have been turned into footballers by force.

“The problems in Ghanaian football predate the birth of Dede Ayew. The last time we won the AFCON in Libya in 1982, even Dede’s father, Abedi, was still young. So, between 1982 and today, the Ghana Blackstars have not won any trophies, which player is responsible? GFA is to blame for the woes of Ghanaian football”.

He also fired a so-called Ghanaian prophet for spreading nonsense about football that has nothing to do with their work for God.

Nii Oyanka has angrily berated the claims of a prophet who said Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew should apologize to some official Black Star team senior players.

What a cut Sulley, Gyan, KPB, etc. won for Ghana?? Questioned by King Oyanka. Dede at least won the U20 World Cup in 2009. Dede owes no one an apology. The government and GFA just need to put in place a DEVELOPMENT PLAN. It’s all planning and hard work now.
