The Department of Energy and Infrastructure is holding free courses for captains of pleasure and fishing boats as part of its ‘Sail Safely’ initiative

Dubai, UAE: The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has launched free intensive training courses for recreational and fishing boats. This is part of the ministry’s “Sail Safely” initiative, which aims to enhance maritime safety and security, protect human lives and the marine environment. The training courses are aimed at water sports enthusiasts in preparation for the next summer water activities. Participants in training courses can apply for a license to sail on a pleasure boat, after passing the aptitude and medical examinations.

The ministry announced the dates for these courses and confirmed that the training will take place regularly on its digital and social media platforms. These courses will be offered in Arabic and English, in order to meet the needs of a greater number of users.

The Department of Energy and Infrastructure’s initiatives in preparedness and education of the maritime community have resulted in a remarkable reduction in maritime accidents. The free courses are part of the ministry’s various initiatives aimed at qualifying sea lovers to navigate pleasure boats and enjoy maritime activities in complete safety. This is achieved by giving them the basic knowledge and skills to practice their maritime hobbies.

Sheikh Nasser Al-Qasimi, Deputy Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Transport at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, said: “The yachting sector in the UAE is gaining popularity thanks to world-class facilities and infrastructure. modern UAE. This has made the United Arab Emirates a global hub for boats and yachts, and a leading destination for leisure marine activities globally. Additionally, the luxury yacht and pleasure craft sector is experiencing significant growth in the UAE, which is home to more than 310 marinas for boats, yachts and ships, with approximately 20,000 yachts and pleasure craft registered. Additionally, the UAE hosts some of the most important marine sporting events. In cooperation with our partners, we aim to encourage the adoption of advanced technology and modern navigational equipment in all boats and vessels operating in the UAE. These technologies allow boat captains and shipowners to navigate safely.

Al-Qasimi added: “Through these free courses dedicated to captains of pleasure and fishing boats, we seek to increase the safety of water leisure enthusiasts and to strengthen their skills to ensure that their boats are not damaged. courses also educate participants on the legal aspects associated with sailing and guidelines to protect the marine environment.The courses also help participants obtain a boat license to popularize boating and nautical activities.

Al Qasimi clarified, “The Ministry’s constant efforts to educate the maritime community in the UAE and provide the necessary trainings have resulted in the reduction of maritime accidents. These efforts, in addition to encouraging the adoption of advanced technologies and modern navigational equipment on ships, will further help reduce accidents that endanger the lives of people, property and the marine environment.The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is also committed to strengthening maritime safety through legislations that regulate the maritime sector of the United Arab Emirates.

These courses are part of a series of initiatives aimed at consolidating sustainability and social responsibility in the maritime industry. The first of these initiatives was the “Support Our Blue Army” initiative, which aims to protect the rights of seafarers. The Department of Energy and Infrastructure continues to focus on captains of fishing and pleasure craft to ensure that they have the knowledge necessary for their safety and to protect their boats against accidents.
