The Defense Ministry describes General Rawat as a true patriot; says the nation will never forget his exceptional service

India’s first chief of staff, General Bipin Rawat, was an “exceptional” soldier and “true patriot” whose ideas and perspectives on strategic issues were exceptional, the defense ministry said on Friday.

The ministry made the comments in a year-end press release.

General Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, his defense adviser, Brigadier LS Lidder and 11 other soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu on December 8.

“They served the Nation with the greatest diligence. General Bipin Rawat was an outstanding soldier. A true patriot, he greatly contributed to the modernization of the Armed Forces and the security apparatus,” said the ministry.

“His ideas and perspectives on strategic issues were outstanding. As India’s first CDS, General Bipin Rawat worked on various aspects related to the armed forces, including defense reforms,” ​​the ministry said.

He added, “He brought with him a wealth of service experience in the Indian Army. The nation will never forget his outstanding service.”

As Chief of the Defense Staff, General Rawat, 63, devised a national security approach to effectively face future threats and set the stage for the implementation of the ambitious force modernization plan armed forces, including the restructuring of military commands.
