By Ruben Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) is carry out tests for HIV and other diseases on Friday in Benque Viejo del Carmen on the occasion of Regional Testing Day 2022.
Regional HIV/AIDS Testing Day has been observed in Belize since 2011. It is an initiative launched in 2007 as a Caribbean Regional Test Day by the Pan-Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP).
The tests at Benque Viejo del Carmen will take place at the Cancha Marshalleck from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
“Visit with us at Cancha Marshalleck, Benque Viejo del Carmen to get your HIV test among many other free tests,” the MOHW said.
The Ministry also carries out screening tests for malaria and tuberculosis.
Additionally, they perform life-saving tests and administer COVID-19 vaccines to children ages 5-11.
Taking advantage of the event, several organizations such as the National Drug and Abuse Control Council (NDACC), Police Department, Department of Youth Services and GOBelize, will have booths showcasing their services.
“HIV testing has started in Dangriga and Punta Gorda [Wednesday] and will continue throughout the country [Friday]June 24, said the National AIDS Commission.
Testing at Punta Gorda will be conducted in Central Park from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday.
Tests will also be carried out at Gabriel Hoare Market in Corozal Town, Orange Walk Central Park, Old Habet Parking Lot in Dangriga, Old Market in Belmopan, Battlefield Field Park in Belize City, and 28 Pescador Drive, in front of San Carlos Medical Center, San Pedro , Ambergris Caye.
