Name cooking oil producers who failed to meet targets, ministry urged

Jakarta (ANTARA) – House of Representatives (DPR) Committee VII member Mulyanto has urged the Ministry of Industry to reveal the names of cooking oil producers who have failed to meet their targets.

These cooking oil producers must be punished in order to solve the scarcity problem because they have failed to solve the problem despite the abundance of raw materials, he said in a statement on Saturday.

The scarcity drove the market price of oil above the highest retail price (HET).

It is important to reveal the names of the producers so that everyone knows the real reason for the shortage of cooking oil stocks and the high price of the commodity, he added.

Mulyanto further stated that he suspects the problem is not just in the cast, but also in the production. According to the latest report from the Ministry of Industry, the cooking oil production rate is far below the daily requirement, which has been set at eight thousand tons per day, he added.

He admitted he was baffled because he expected the CPO export ban to lead to an increase in the supply of raw materials needed to produce cooking oil. In reality, the commodity is still scarce, therefore, it is suspected that the raw materials have never been used to meet domestic needs.

Mulyanto said government policy would be wasted if growers did not demonstrate their commitment to meet the targeted production quota.

Therefore, he urged the Ministry of Industry to reveal the names of producers and impose strict penalties.

He said the state should not allow itself to be tricked by some “irresponsible” businessmen because it would cost it dearly. The government must also disclose the matter to the public so that everyone can socially punish the producers by not buying their products, he added.
