Ministry of Transport will continue to support growth of Bintulu Port, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: The positive growth of Bintulu Port in Sarawak despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic has been hailed by the Ministry of Transport (MOT).

In a Facebook post, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong said he had an hour-long dialogue to discuss issues relating to the growth and development of the port, which he described as ” class” with the management of Bintulu Port Holdings. .

“We welcomed senior management and directors of Bintulu Port Holdings yesterday during their courtesy visit to MOT, led by Chairman of the Board Datuk Abdul Mutalib Alias ​​and Group CEO Datuk Mohammad Medan bin Abdullah.

“During our hour-long dialogue which was attended by the Ministry’s Maritime Division, we discussed various issues related to the growth and future development of Sarawak’s strategic world-class port,” Dr Wee said.

He said Bintulu Port generated RM728.39 million in operating revenue in 2021, 2.98% more than in 2020 despite very difficult economic conditions.

He also expressed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the growth of Bintulu Port.

“I am pleased with the good working relationship the port has with Bintulu Port Authority and MOT Malaysia, and we will continue to support the growth of Bintulu Port to complement the state’s rapid growth,” he said. he adds.
