Ministry of Awqaf launches mobile blood donation unit in partnership with HMC

Doha: The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and the General Directorate of Islamic Affairs Endowments on Monday inaugurated the QR 2.5 million, 80 square meter mobile blood donation unit funded by the Waqf Bank for Healthcare.

Director General of the General Directorate of Endowments Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanim Al-Thani and Acting Deputy Director General and Head of Specialty Hospitals of Hamad Medical Corporation Ali Al Janahi attended the launch of the service.

Sheikh Dr. Khalid Al-Thani expressed satisfaction with the continued partnership between the ministry and HMC, which reflects the motto of the ministry – “Endowments as a societal partnership”. He also hailed the service as a world-class integrated clinic to bolster the health services provided by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) for nationals and residents.

Sheikh Dr. Khalid added that the mobile phlebotomist is working efficiently in collecting blood samples and organizing field campaigns in cooperation with the HMC Blood Donor Center. He praised the highly qualified technical, nursing, medical and administrative staff as well as the support services provided for urgent and critical cases.

“The sampler was designed by HMC according to world-class technical standards and safety and security criteria, including ease of transport and adaptation to various climatic circumstances,” he said.

He also praised the exterior and interior aesthetic designs that offered privacy and comfort to all donors.

“The phlebotomist’s body expands to give a wider interior space to attract other blood donors and provide additional comfort for medical staff and donors, and the design takes into account people with special needs through its wheelchair ramps,” noted Sheikh Dr. Khalid Al-Thani.

He pointed out that the phlebotomist is equipped with special rooms for receiving and testing donors, pre-donation blood screening, blood sample collection, as well as a post-donation observation room where donors can take a light snack and be checked for their safety; and a specialized room for supervising doctors.

He added that the blood sample collection room, which can accommodate up to six donors simultaneously in complete privacy, follows the most advanced technologies in blood collection and screening as well as blood bank refrigerators. to ensure safety before transferring blood samples to blood donation laboratories.

Ali Al Janahi praised the effective partnership with the Directorate General of Endowments (Awqaf).
He said the mobile blood donation unit will play a vital role in strengthening HMC’s efforts to ensure sufficient blood supply ahead of and during the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
He said the unit is environmentally friendly and is equipped with solar panels capable of generating electricity from solar power sources or direct power generators.
Janahi noted that HMC has launched two additional vehicles to support blood donation in the community, in addition to the mobile units donated by the Minister of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, represented by Awqaf, noting that the mobile units are part of part of the two blood donation units of Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City, which is located next to the HMC Surgical Specialty Center.

He pointed out that the voluntary blood donation process meets the requirements of the State of Qatar and is considered the highest rate in the region.
“Nevertheless, Qatar has redoubled its blood donation efforts to ensure an adequate blood supply is secured for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament,” he said. .
He added that blood donation services, which ensure that enough safe blood is obtained for patients, are an essential part of achieving an efficient health system.
According to him, the new unit will mainly provide access to a significant number of individuals, in addition to strengthening their efforts to ensure the obtaining of sufficient blood supplies that meet current and future needs.

“Being a blood donor means you are giving an incredible gift to save and protect the lives of individuals in times of need, because voluntary blood donation gives patients the opportunity to survive and live longer,” he said. he declares.

The Waqf Bank for Healthcare is one of the six endowment banks of the General Administration of Endowments which was established based on the historical role played by healthcare endowments.
