By Aaron Humes: To subvert their classic catchphrase, discerning Belizean moms shouldn’t choose Jif peanut butter products, at least for now.

The Department of Health announced that effective May 20, the JM Smucker Company has voluntarily recalled certain Jif Peanut Butter products due to potential Salmonella contamination.

The ministry has opened an in-depth investigation into major supermarkets across the country as a precaution, as Belize imports the products in question. When these products are identified, they will be seized, condemned and destroyed.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella often suffer from fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

The recalled products include various varieties ranging from creamy to crunchy (i.e. containing peanuts), natural, honey flavored, no added sugar, etc. in 16 ounces, 40 ounces, 96 ounces and even in sachets and to go. .
