Ou Vandine, Secretary of State and spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, says so far the first Omicron case in Cambodia shows no symptoms of the mutated variant of COVID-19
Speaking to Fresh News, Ms Vandine said that “So far the patient has not shown any symptoms and doctors continue to monitor her condition”
Cambodia discovered the first case of the Omicron variant in a 23-year-old Cambodian woman born in Bavet City, in the province of Svay Rieng. She flew from Ghana to Dubai then from Dubai to Thailand before flying from Thailand to Cambodia.
Cambodia has not found an Omicron case so far, the spokesperson said.
She urges people not to be too afraid, but also not to dare too much and to take care to continue to implement the “3 preventive measures and 3 no”
She also urged all citizens to come forward for the 3rd booster dose to prevent the transmission of COVID-19, especially new mutations, and to maintain the longevity of normal life in the context of COVID-19 .
Omicron – which would be highly transmissible and have a higher rate of reinfection – has now spread to over 80 countries worldwide, Cambodia joining a list of countries including Thailand, Singapore as well as in America, Asia, Europe and Australia.
2 separate studies by researchers in Hong Kong stated that “Omicron SARS-CoV-2 infects and multiplies 70 times faster than the Delta variant and the original SARS-CoV-2. “Human bronchus and that two doses of Sinovac vaccine” are not enough against the Omicron virus variants “
