Ministry service

Former Fort Hood chaplain dedicated his life to ministry, service and inspiring others | Herald of Fort Hood

BELTON — Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. David Howard never considered himself a religious or particularly spiritual person growing up in the Pacific Northwest, but a series of events beginning after the Graduating from high school eventually led to him serving 20 years in the military as a chaplain.

His college career began at the University of the Pacific in Forest Grove, Oregon, near Portland, where he joined a local fraternity and was unexpectedly chosen as fraternity chaplain.
