Egyptian Minister for Emigration and Expatriates Nabila Makram attends the signing of a cooperation agreement between the ministry and Shezlong, an online therapy to provide psychological support to Egyptians abroad
The initiative, dubbed “Speak… Do not be afraid… Egypt is on your side”, was launched during a ceremony in the presence of the Minister of Emigration and Expatriates, Nabila Makram .
During his speech at the launch ceremony, Makram said the coronavirus pandemic showed the importance of paying attention to the mental health of Egyptian youth abroad.
He also stressed the importance of raising awareness of the difference between Western and Eastern cultures, in addition to the psychological issues expatriates may face, including bullying, racism and exclusion, Makram said.
She added that young people do not talk about these problems, which exposes them to certain psychological crises.
The cooperation protocol with Shezlong provides a free service to young Egyptians abroad, so that they can easily talk to psychological experts via an online platform and choose the psychological condition they are suffering from, “bullying, exclusion, psychological support , family problems, psychological pressures,” and others.
During the ceremony, a documentary film was screened on the initiative and its objectives as well as the steps to register on the online platform in order to receive the necessary care.
Founded in 2014, Shezlong helps patients connect with licensed therapists through online video calls and uses cognitive behavioral therapy to teach individuals how to manage stress and anxiety.
