Kottayam: The AYUSH ministry (Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Homeopathy) has taken severe action against those who offer false attributes to drugs for profit.

The ministry identified that the tendency to promote fake drugs through false claims in the market has become unwarranted in recent times. As the importance and credibility of AYUSH treatment units has grown, some private pharmaceutical manufacturers have made false claims about their drugs.

As a result of these findings, the AYUSH Department called on state governments to take action against attempts to deceive consumers using the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940, the Rules of 1945, and the Act. of 1954 on drugs and magic remedies (objectionable publicity).

At the same time, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has also been ordered to ban the dissemination of deceptive advertisements. These matters will also be monitored by the Indian Advertising and Standards Council.

From 2018 to 2021, the Pharmacovigilance Unit reported that 14,876 incidents of unjustified complaints from pharmaceutical companies were identified in the country.
